Blue: Talent Show

Blue swirls

A fun picture from the talent show at last weekend’s Winterfest. I believe the blue lights he was swinging around are game controllers that light up and flash.

Borrowed: John Nyman’s Haircut in the Mekong Delta

Haircut in the Mekong Delta

My dad took this picture in 1970 while serving on the river near Chau Doc, Vietnam when he was a 3rd Class Engineman on the YRBM-16. I love this picture, my favorite from his collection of 3 or 4 slide trays that I remember seeing on the rare but wonderful occasions when my family would break out the slide projector.

New: Christmas Cards

Laurana and Anika by the Christmas tree

We’ve actually managed to take pictures to put in our Christmas cards this year. True, they haven’t arrived from the printer yet, and we still need to put them into cards, address them, and mail them.
But until then, may whatever December-time holiday you prefer be pleasant.

Borrowed: James Nachtwey’s Rwandan Survivor

Rwanda, 1994 - Survivor of Hutu death camp.

This 1994 photo of a Rwandan Hutu death camp survivor is from James Nachtwey, another of my favorite photographers (and hence the name of another one of my hard drives!).

Speaking during a conference, he said, “I was driven by an inherent sense that a picture that revealed the true face of war would almost by definition be an anti-war photograph.” I encourage you to visit his website with the hope that your perspective on the world will be changed.

Visit Nachtwey’s website.
