Wonder Bar

Wonder Bar

When I asked our friendly waitress how long the Wonder Bar had been in existence, she answered, “Forever.” I don’t think she was kidding. The Wonder Bar is one of those magical places where you are transported back in time, and if you stop to talk to any of the many faithful patrons of the place (the crowd waiting in line for a seat spilled out the door onto Shrewsbury Street), you’ll find people that have been eating there for decades. Case in point: Carol and Bob, pictured here. Bob told me he had been going there since he was a kid. As I waited for my girls to finish up in the bathroom on our way out, I sat down and talked with them for a few minutes. It turns out that Carol’s brother and sister-in-law live a few houses away from us. A trip to the Wonder Bar makes Worcester feel even more like a small town.
