Hunting Cabin, Arkansas

Hunting Cabin

Amy’s parents lived in this old hunting cabin for a short time while their house was being built not thirty feet away. This was the first building, if you can call it that, that I entered upon my first visit to Arkansas. It has become, perhaps unfairly, my iconic representation of the state.

Perspective in the visual arts relates to one’s point of view and the way that other objects appear in relationship to one another from that point of view. This hunting cabin is a place that most Americans would not consider good enough to live in, yet it is larger and better than what many, many other people in the world have for shelter. Perspective in our minds, or perhaps lack of perspective, is what makes us think that what we have is not good enough.
