Candlepin Bowling

Candlepin Bowling

I was in a ten-pin bowling league for about 6 or 7 years growing up (even then not exactly the way to catch the eyes of the ladies), and I got to be pretty good, averaging in the 180s. It was a disapointment when one of my three games was not over 200. So when I first tried candlepin bowling, it was an exercise in frustration. Even if I could consistently control where I threw the ball (which I can not), what happened at the other end of the lane seemed more like a game of chance than anything resembling the laws of physics. I’ve only once broken 100. After playing at Colonial Bowling on Mill Street, I talked with the owner about typical scores for league players. Only around 110. Pros average 130 or so. That made me feel a little better. Maybe I’ll get a chance to try duckpin bowling one of these days.
