MushroomMushrooms, of the kind found in food, are one of those things like black licorice, which people either love or hate. No one says, “Black licorice isn’t bad.” They either say, “I love it,” or they make a gagging gesture. This is also true for Peeps, Circus Peanuts (the orange colored, spongey candy), and Barry Manilow. Mushrooms make me want to gag when it comes to eating them. They taste like death to me. However, if I can spare the time, I will almost always try to stop and take a picture of them when I find them in the wild. This propensity has made me the source of some amount of ridicule, but I find them incredibly beautiful, and I particularly admire their thankless job in nature. The ability of some species to cause death and/or hallucinations only adds to their charm.

Give me mushrooms and black licorice any day (not together…and not necessarily on the same day or anything). Barry Manilow on the other hand…*that* makes me gag. Now I gotta go brush my teeth. :)

My friend Jeanne took up the hobby last summer of taking pictures of mushrooms on her walks around Hagerman Lake. They are amazing. What I find remarkable is that one day there is nothing- and the next day- a huge mushroom! Where were you when you took this?

A wonderful mushroom picture! (I hope Karl sees it, bringing back fond memories of hiking with you). You know I love eating mushrooms but did you know that I can’t stand black licorice and Circus Peanuts? Should I admit that I attended a few Barry Manilow concerts back in the day?
